Just played the song for Steve & Andrew, both of whom like it. Coming on the heels of our viewing It Might Get Loud, this was especially interesting. James likes this song quite a bit.

Andrew nominates Fleetwood Mac's Break the Chain and White Stripes' Seven Nation Army as having even better bass lines.

Regarding yearning for companionship, give it some time and keep your eyes open. Make as many friends as possible and maybe one day you'll realize that one of them is more than a friend. It's good advice: Steady as she goes . . .

Ah! Study carrel graffitti - explains the muddled voice. Love the collaboration. And the direction of the distraction.

No, no, don't worry - I'm not that bad! It's just other students' graffiti on the study carrel that I found amusing and transcribed! Here is Study Table Poem #1.

You should listen to "Mad World," in which the best dreams are the ones in which I'm dead. As I recall, you liked Johnny Darko.

Then snap out of it. Get some cold water and pour it over yourself. Administer a good slap. You wanted to get into UW ~ remember? And to do a master's in hot librarianship ~ yes? And studying, well, how cool is that? Some students keep trying to stave off the real world by remaining perpetual students forever. When you're my age, you'll long for these days . . .

Witty and to the point, nevertheless. We've all been there. This too shall pass.

Excellent. Noble stuff.

The Quakers call it "being present where you are" and it's an important concept.

My goals for the new year include exercising daily, drinking more water, and finishing going through Mom's stuff.

Here's to both of us keeping tough!

Just wondering if other people thought of this. He is very gimicky. I remember him talking to North Carolina Teaching Fellows one year around 1997. He was a Teaching Fellow and didn't even want to teach. He travelled Europe, etc. and only subbed when his mom convinced him to. He really is more about getting attention. I remember him trying to Smooz Harry Wong...another one who had success for awhile teaching then is selling "his methods" to everyone.

Better beware, your nephew is no longer a helpless newborn....he's now the one threatening to devour your fingers (and glasses and MacBook and necklace....) with his two little razor-sharp teeth!

Napoleon Dynamite was OK, a few good laughs. We actively enjoyed Little Miss Sunshine (how can you resist "Cat Walking, Baby" ~ got that stuck in your head for the rest of the day, haven't I?). The whole family is frothing to watch Wes Anderson's upcoming Fantastic Mr. Fox (the featurette trailer on Apple's site or the movie's site that includes interviews with Roald Dahl's wife is mesmerizing and reminiscent of WETA). I think you've convinced us about this one, though.

We're on a movie watching streak right now. Steve had to upgrade to 2 DVDs per month from Netflix temporarily in order to get Andrew & me through Season 2 of Numb3rs by Thanksgiving so that we can have a Numb3rs orgy over Andrew's 5-day break watching Season 3 via Roku! Tonight we're going to see The Hurt Locker (indie bomb squad in Iraq thriller by a woman director) at the dollar theater and Saturday we're going to a matinee (hey, we're cheap) of The Blind Side (unless it gets utterly trashed on Friday by the NYT and Salon). I'm a sucker for those true inspiring sports movies (Breaking Away, Hoosiers, Remember the Titans) and Sandra Bullock as a sassy, hard-ass, tough-love Southern Belle floats my boat.

As Gene Siskel used to say, "See you at the Movies!"

Hello from a Fellow Grt Columbia Crsng Runner,

Its possible I have some pictures on you included among the faces in my photo tour of the race. I had a great time running it with another of my brothers and a third brother served as our race photographer.

If you want to do the tour, just go onto my website, above, and hit the photo of the Megler Bridge. Let me know via e-mail if you liked it. Just ignore the commercial junk and enjoy the pictures. Congratulations on your run!

Sincerely in Heart & Sport,

Au contraire, ma soeur! Damn the rhyme, I must disagree in free verse. I just crowed with delight to see the LoTR images backed by the ass-kicking Buffy music. Oh, yeah, it's a glorious jest rife with potential for comparison. Good versus evil, small persons (aka girls) burdened with the obligation to save the world, some hunky guys along the way to help out. I really dug that last episode, too, and MY library has the books of Joss' 8th season. I'm saving them until I finish the Angel series - I'm down to the 10th place in line for season 2. Rock on, Backyard Buffster. Keep those high kicks coming.
