In which I chew on the cud of yesterday’s mowed lawn and tomorrow’s long-awaited feature

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

That’s right, baby Annagail, I would say to her right now if we were hangin’ out together, dreams really do come true!

Last Sunday, for instance, I ran a humble little hand-me-down reel mower across my own patch of grass. As I’ve dreamed of doing. It was bliss!

And this weekend, David Lynch’s Inland Empire, the most anticipated movie of the biennium here at Pedestrian Saga, is actually playing…at…the Darkside. (more…)

Pan’s Crab-yrinth

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

Last Sunday, I went back to the Darkside after a long hiatus (blame Netflix) and watched El laberinto del fauno. Don’t listen to the critics on this one. Some ne-fairy-ous puck slipped ‘em all a Mickey or something (Andrew O’Hehir, what possessed you?) because this flick is not even close to being “convincing,” “glorious,” “lovely,” “magical,” “gorgeously executed,” or “rewarding.” (Den-nis!) It is ugly, flat, and entirely unmoving. I hereby pan Pan’s Labyrinth. (more…)

Matt Stone and Weird Al are so hot

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Well, this video pretty much sums up my weekend.

Friday evening Scott and I headed to the Coliseum and watched my alma domina whomp my alma matertera in the first home meet of the gymnastics season.

Then last night we hunkered down at home to watch the musical-cum-action-flick-cum-marionette-spectacle that is Team America: World Police. Scott had seen it at the cinema back in the fall of 2004 and recommended I catch it right away, since many of the political jokes and plot points would soon be dated. I managed to miss it anyway, but luckily Bush was reelected, and this delightful puppetry parody of the Bruckheimer/Bay bombasticistical brand of filmmaking remained relevant long enough for me to enjoy it on DVD. My favorite song is probably “Montage,” but it’s that catchy main theme that’s stuck in my head.

To unstick it, I’ll revisit last weekend’s theme, “White & Nerdy,” and maybe kick Scott’s butt in a game of Ping-Pong, sip some earl, pimp out my Facebook profile, make a homepage for my dogs, assemble a bowling team

“Che ridicolo!” - Waking dreams of Lebowski

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

Last night I passed out after watching The Big Lebowski again with Scott and finally sharing photos from his bowling birthday bash with fellow Achievers. Sometime after 1:00 found myself wide awake, mind racing. Nigh dawn, and I’m still waiting for the sandman. (Help, dudes? I’ve always tended toward narcolepsy, so I’m out of my element here.)

Right now I’m really missing my pal Dennis who, turns out, happened to have Lebowski on the mind last night as well! Truly a kindred spirit. Think I’ll watch his fabulous YouTube picks a second time, fire up the Lebowski DVD with the subtitles he and Patty created, and dream about bringing Lebowski Fest to Corvallis.

Willamette Valley Home Companions

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

A couple of weeks ago, Scott and I day-tripped down to Eugene to see my pal Dennis, who was up from the Southland to visit his dear pal Bruce. Friends, films, and falafel for fuel… Not too shabby a way to pass a Sunday! (more…)

Bollywood, here I come!

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

I may have died and gone to heaven, for I’ve found Devi in a little strip mall a few mere blocks from our new home!

Paneer! Gulab jamun! And Bollywood! Yes, kids, dreams really do come true.

Meanwhile, before I go and gorge myself on all the goodies Devi has to offer, it’s perhaps time again to indulge in some tasty bites of Bombay TV, all thanks to lovely L. Claude. Bollywood, here I come!

Meme of Fours

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Dennis tagged me with this e-mail quiz something like four months ago. I found it had also made the rounds in the blogosphere (a meme, the kids call it) and thought I’d respond to him here, both because I’m desperate to keep Pedestrian Saga a-hobblin’ along and because I love links. (Maybe my overdue answers will even give the good professor some hope that this truant pupil will eventually surface to make up that other quiz!) (more…)

Fire Walk With Me

Saturday, June 24th, 2006

Sunny and 91 degrees here at 8:00 this evening in the Heart of the Valley. There’s nothing for it: It’s cherry pie a la mode for dinner, a glass of wine to rinse it down (and the Ramones anthology streaming out of iTunes, to keep me awake). Now if only I had some yummy Twin Peaks on hand! With my own Gordon Cole and Madeleine Ferguson sacked out on the floor, I’d curl up and study the best moments of the series over seconds. As consolation, perhaps it’s time to wander over to that one link Dennis posted last month. Oh, yes… very promising indeed…

Someone please lock me in a room with Bollywood and throw away the key

Fill in the Blanks

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

So far I haven’t broadcast any “Dear Cary” letters or online dating profiles, which is not to say I haven’t mentally drafted them as I’m walking. In case I’m ever actually compelled to complete a dating questionnaire (Venus forbid!) like the cheeky personals featured on the Onion or the L.A. Weekly, I’ve got answers prepared for at least one question.

Fill in the blanks:
Andrew McCarthy
is sexy; James Spader is sexier.
Car-free guy on a bicycle is sexy; Car-free guy on a custom-built fixie is sexier. [Profuse, adoring thanks to the bitchin' Bici Blog!]

Meow! Purrrrrr…
