Fast Food Nation (2006) (That’s the movie)

This flick is the fast food version of the book—fast, cheap, out of control. Tummy-ache inducing, and not the righteous kind. Not even Ethan Hawke’s Good (Yet Slightly Creepy) Uncle could save it. Maybe if he’d been animated? God, I’m depressed. Just go read the 2001 book, folks, which has nothing to do with Avril Lavigne and everything to do with the implications of your local burger franchise.

Coming down the assembly line: Maybe I’ll get around to sinking my teeth into The Jungle. (That’s a book.) No more crappy film adaptations for a while.

You are the queen of time management. I’m about to be late to church for the second time today. You are not only reading and viewing well, but you are blogging about it. Kudos, Madame Manager.

  2. Ma, late for church twice in a day? Hmm, maybe you could offer your extra church attendance on some kind of market, and the likes of me would buy devoutness offsets.

I agree that one should definitely read Fast Food Nation the book as it presents a very complete investigation into a very complex set of subjects. As for the movie, I actually liked it. I viewed it as sort of a video sidebar to the book. This format I think will allow some people to connect with the characters in a way that a book may not, bringing the issues closer rather than keeping them at an academic distance. In this regard I think this movie was a success, somewhat depressing yes, but certainly a good compliment to the book.
