Couch to 5K a resounding success
Despite a few pesky butterflies beforehand and continuous incline with punishing evening sunshine in the face during the first half of the course, I finished the Midsummer Night’s Run Saturday with my C25K team. Whoo-hoo, team!
We were slow but steady right through to the finish (and on to the sacred temple of shaved ice). One of our ranks transcended expectations and scored a ribbon!
The fearsome threesome approaches the finish line: C’est moi, Renee, and Red Ribbon Rachel
Barry and Scott-o’-the-blue-ribbon ran incredibly well for not being on the C25K plan, but I won’t hold it against ‘em. Thanks for joining in the fun run, boys! And a shout out to awesome Eric for the escort and sag wagon!
I was disappointed they didn’t close the road and let us take over the centerline, but what can ya do? It was a small event. Today Corvallis, I say, tomorrow the world!
Victory portrait courtesy of Scott. No, I’m not going to Disney World, but perhaps…golf? I won a free round in the raffle! Unfortunately, there’s only so many hobbies the champ can master at once.

Beloved Champion,
Ponytail swinging, ear to ear grinning, fist pumping, finish line stomping CHAMP! Oh yes, I have seen this before in another era, not yet full grown, the grin or the girl. It is an indescribable pleasure to see it here.
I’m cyber café hooked up in beautiful downtown Lumbumbashi, where a road race involves circumnavigating the cavernous holes of what could be a recent battlefield. Tires thumping over heaps of corpses in my shaken and stirred mind, I endure this lack of road maintanence ill-disguised horror.
Winging my way your way, following you, in flight and then, I hope, as new home owner, and finally, as road race queen.
May your fine example inspire us all.

Well, I must say that I’ve run 5K plenty of times back in my running heyday, but you sure look a lot better than I usually did at the end. Way to go- you’re an inspiration for sure. I long to return to my running physique but the first steps are the most daunting. Your step-by-step process is definitely the way to go. So, hopefully you and I will one day be able to run a 5K (or 10K!) and then celebrate with a bungee jump!!! What do you think?

Thanks, Mum and Em. News of insane 10K aspirations coming soon!
Em, you’re on.
