Nice to see a microreview. Yay!
Unfortunately I haven’t seen this one and can’t comment.
I liked Eastern Promises that you watched recently,
but I had to watch it at work, which probably undermined it.
Is the shower fight the best part of that movie? Felt a little
like showing off. “I’m gonna do something no one’s done before.”
But it was pretty gripping and dramatic.
Permanent Vacation is a tough one to love, but there is something about it
that puts it just above average, like the bizarre soundtrack (even though
it perhaps becomes irritating eventually.)

Oh, man, you’re an animal, Editor A! It’s gonna be difficult to keep up…
EASTERN PROMISES I’m so glad to have taken in without having to pause every three seconds for work. It was so engrossing in that weird, distant, cold, imperfect, freakishly fascinating can’t-stop-watching-or-obsessing-about-after Cronenberg way. The shower fight was AMAZING, and funny you should mention because I was indeed thinking (aloud, probably), “Holy crap! I’ve never seen anyone do this before!” Of course I chalked it up to personal inexperience. Wow. Everybody, behold the shower fight scene.
If I ruled the world and it was a cinema of double features, I’d pair EASTERN PROMISES with DIRTY PRETTY THINGS. Immigrant London bliss!
Thoughts on PERMANENT VACATION and STRANGER THAN PARADISE still forming, fading. I’ll keep trying to record things here. Mil gracias for the encouragement!
